There is something
that awakens us alive, in awe, and fully present. For us, it’s staying up all night to watch a comet; it’s being & feeling at home on this earth—the smell of eucalyptus, wind whipping through hair, gravity rooting our feet.
Somewhere along the ripples of spacetime,
forces have made us forget where we came from, and who we are. The incessant forward-ticking rhythms of life that send waves of anxiety through our bodies; the screens that tell us we are never good enough; the schools and corporations that herd us into conformity.
Wild Awake is a beckoning call
to return to our origins by slowing down, listening to each other and the earth, and honoring the reciprocity and reliance between us all.
Shasha Du
is a designer & storyteller who believes that creativity is a form of reverence for a world greater than ourselves. As a toddler, Shasha immigrated with her parents from Sichuan, China to the San Francisco Bay Area, which didn’t quite feel like home until a high school road trip, when she found an inexplicable sense of belonging while looking up at the Milky Way for the first time. As a Co-Founder and Creative Director at Wild Awake, Shasha tells stories that dissolve the boundaries between us and the earth. Shasha holds a M.Ed. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she explored the role of awe & wonder in learning, and design as a force for social change.
Sophie Haruna Klimcak
is a learning experience designer, community-builder, and Bay Area naturalist. As Co-founder and Program Director at Wild Awake, Sophie draws upon her ecstatic wonder for the outdoors and her Japanese & Eastern European roots to design experiences that nurture a deep care for people and the planet. She holds a M.Ed. from Harvard Graduate School of Education and a B.A. in Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis. Sophie is an avid stargazer and backpacker with 300+ miles of trails logged, with a newly emerging passion for birding, poetry, and taiko drumming.
